Alabama
The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has announced grants totaling $1,511,000 to 48 area nonprofits serving Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker counties. Recipients include Redemptive Cycles, the East Lake Initiative, Leadership St. Clair County, and the Exceptional Foundation.
California
The San Francisco Foundation (SFF) has won the 16th Annual Shorty Award in the Local Campaign category. According to the Shorty Awards, SFF’s 75th anniversary campaign demonstrated strengths and uniqueness in innovation, creativity, and strategy by using an animated film series, virtual tour of racial equity history in the Bay Area, and a TikTok influencer campaign. The Shorty Awards honor the best of digital and social media by innovative and influential brands, agencies, organizations, and individuals whose work shows excellence in digital storytelling.
Connecticut
The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut in New London has announced grants totaling $305,765 over two years to two nonprofits working to address systemic challenges that perpetuate child poverty in eastern Connecticut. The inaugural grants from its End Child Poverty Now initiative include $200,000 to Access Community Action Agency and $105,765 to the Partnership for Strong Communities.
Idaho
The Greater Coeur d’Alene Community Foundation, a recently established affiliate of the Idaho Community Foundation (ICF), received several pledges totaling nearly $500,000 within 15 minutes, the Coeur d’Alene Press reports. During an event hosted by ICF, an audience of approximately 150 was challenged to pledge $50,000 in support of the Greater Coeur d’Alene Community Foundation. Mary Sanderson, one of the residents who helped establish the foundation, pledged $100,000, and contributions continued in an auction-like format.
Illinois
The Chicago Community Trust has announced more than $1.6 million in capacity-building grants to 13 news organizations through Press Forward Chicago—a local affiliate of the national Press Forward initiative. The fund is supported by a coalition of civic-minded individuals, philanthropic leaders, and foundations interested in fostering stronger, economically stable organizations that can serve the information needs of their communities and encourage residents to participate in civic life.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced that it raised $379,936.13 from 512 donors during its recent Match Day in support of 38 area nonprofit organizations and eight community funds. The foundation’s matching pool contributed an additional $100,000.
Massachusetts
The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced a total of $10,000 in grants from the Cambridge WINS grant program in support of community sports ranging from baseball and football leagues to summer camps to family roller skating. Recipients include Bridge Basketball, CRLS Girls Soccer Preseason, Ladies Invitational Team Enterprise, and Pink Sunday Youth Girls Flag Football.
Minnesota
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced grants totaling $300,000 to nine organizations working to address climate change through its Climate Action and Racial Equity Fund. The fund, a partnership between the City of Minneapolis, the McKnight Foundation, and the Minneapolis Foundation, drives hyper-local efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Recipients include TC Food Justice, the East Phillips Neighborhood Institute, MNI Sota Fund, and West Bank Business Association.
Montana
The Park County Community Foundation has awarded 28 grants totaling $350,000, including its largest ever single grant amount of $30,000 to Montana Freshwater Partners, the Livingston Enterprise reports. Recipients include the Park Local Development Corporation, Farm to School of Park County, Friends of the Yellowstone Gateway Museum, and Elk River Arts & Lectures.
Nebraska
The Omaha Community Foundation has announced three staff promotions. Vanessa Denney will serve as vice president of philanthropic and donor services, Katie Vogel was promoted to director of donor services, and Tessa Barney has been named director of philanthropic services.
Pennsylvania
The Chester County Community Foundation in West Chester has announced that its Jonas C., Marian D., and Robert H. Erb Charitable Fund awarded five grants totaling nearly $350,000 to local nonprofits working to advance education, social and community services, and technology programs. The recipients are ACLAMO, Conshohocken Free Library, Indian Valley Free Library, the Quaker School at Horsham, and Montgomery County Community College.
