California

The East Bay Community Foundation has announced the appointments of Connie Cagampang Heller, co-founder of the Linked Fate Fund for Justice; John Govea, program director for immigrant rights and integration at the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund; and Tom Hanenburg, chief operating officer at Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region, to its board of directors.

Florida

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County has announced grants totaling nearly $10 million to local nonprofits. The awards include more than $1 million in support of services for families and cultural amenities and more than $3 million in gifts directed through donor-advised funds.

North Carolina

The Foundation for the Carolinas has announced that it exceeded its fundraising goals for two campaigns aimed at providing affordable housing in Mecklenburg County. The Charlotte Housing Opportunity Investment Fund, a private-sector affordable housing campaign, raised more than $53 million, including grants from Novant Health ($6 million), Duke Energy ($2 million), and the Howard R. Levine Foundation ($1 million). And a total of $26 million was raised to bolster the endowment of A Way Home, a public-private partnership between FFTC and the City of Charlotte that addresses family homelessness in the county by providing rental subsidies and complementary wraparound services. Contributions to the fund include $5 million from the Leon Levine Foundation, $1 million from the Howard R. Levine Foundation, and $250,000 from Moore & Van Allen.

Ohio

The Columbus Foundation has announced that it raised a record $224 million in 2018 and has now awarded more than $2.5 billion in support of local nonprofits since it was established seventy-five years ago. In 2018, the foundation received $170.5 million in support of new and existing funds as well as its thirty supporting foundations. It is the third straight year the foundation and its donors have set a record for grantmaking in support of local communities. In addition, the foundation distributed more than $2.7 million in scholarships, also a record.

The Dayton Foundation has announced that during a recent concert it raised nearly $70,000 for the Dayton Oregon District Tragedy Fund. All contributions to the fund, which has raised more than $2.5 million to date, will be used to assist families who lost loved ones and individuals who were severely injured during the August 4 mass shooting in the city’s Oregon District.

Pennsylvania

The Erie Community Foundation has announced that nearly nine thousand donors contributed more than $5.5 million in support of almost four hundred nonprofits during its recent Erie Gives online campaign – a year-over-year increase of more than $1.1 million. The Hamot Health Foundation received the most donations and will use the funds raised, some $54,000, to help the families who lost children in a tragic housefire on August 11.

Tennessee

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in Nashville has announced the creation of the Music City Way Fund, which will provide disaster relief assistance to victims of Hurricane Dorian.
