The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has announced the creation of the Women's Breast Health Fund and the launch of a new website in support of the field-of-interest fund, which will provide resources for breast cancer survivors and their loved ones.

California

Nearly nine in ten California voters (87.7 percent) say it is important for the state's next governor to support greater investment in programs that benefit young children, a new poll from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation's Choose Children 2018 campaign finds. According to the poll, voter support is deep-rooted and widespread across demographic groups and geographic regions. The poll also found that early childhood education stands out as a priority, with seven in ten voters citing it as a "top" or "high" priority, putting it on par with education and public safety and ahead of infrastructure and the environment, to which the legislature and governor dedicated significant resources in recent legislative sessions.

The Escondido Charitable Foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, has announced $231,016 in grants to eight nonprofits in the area of youth education and development. Recipients include Conway Elementary School (Robots, Coding & Digital Interactivity: STEM in the Classroom); Encuentros Leadership (Young Emerging Latino Leaders Father/Son project); the San Diego Futures Foundation (Girls Who Code); and Voices for Children (Transitional Age Youth program). The foundation also announced that it received an anonymous $1 million gift aimed at enhancing the image and overall quality of life in Escondido.

Colorado

The Community Foundation Boulder County has announced grants totaling $37,750 to thirteen organizations serving the LGBTQ community. Recipients include Attention Homes, the Boulder County AIDS Project, Bridge House, and Women's Wilderness.

Florida

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice has announced $67,200 in emergency grants to nine local nonprofits working to address needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. The funding comes from the Gulf Coast Disaster Fund, which the foundation activated just before the storm, and the Community Health Endowment Fund, a permanently endowed fund at GCCF that supports healthcare needs. Recipients include the All Faiths Food Bank, Harvest House, the Laurel Civic Association, and the Pines of Sarasota Foundation.

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties in West Palm Beach has announced that it awarded a record $9.98 million in grants during its 2017 fiscal year, including $1.6 million in community impact funds, nearly $7 million in facilitated gifts, and $1.3 million in scholarships to a hundred and twenty-five students.

Illinois

The Chicago Community Trust has announced grants totaling $800,000 in support of locally driven projects seeking to revitalize communities along the city's river system. Part of CCT's Our Great Rivers initiative, the grants include $50,000 to the Active Transportation Alliance to advance the multijurisdictional planning, development, and management of the Des Plaines River Trail between Touhy and North Avenues; $75,000 to the Chicago Public Art Group to develop the Northwest Trail Outdoor Museum in partnership with the American Indian Center and the Portage Park Neighborhood Association; and $85,000 to the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization, which is partnering with the Southeast Environmental Task Force to explore the public health implications of Chicago waterways through analyses of industrial sites along the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and the Calumet River.

Kansas

The Central Kansas Community Foundation has announced that the Fredonia Area Community Foundation, one of its affiliates, has awarded nine grants totaling $35,000 to local nonprofits. Recipients include the Fredonia Child Care Center, Shoes for Kids, the Fredonia Regional Hospital, and the Fredonia Public Library.

Massachusetts

The Boston Foundation has announced the creation of the Massachusetts United for Puerto Rico Fund. Hosted in partnership with the Latino Legacy Fund and civic leaders from Boston's Puerto Rican community, the fund will support relief and reconstruction efforts in Puerto Rico as well as Puerto Ricans arriving in Boston and the Commonwealth who were forced to leave the island as a result of the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria.

Tennessee

The Nashville-based Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has announced the creation of the Music City Cares Fund to help nonprofits that are assisting with the immediate and long-term needs of victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas. The fund awarded its first grants to Bridge Counseling Associates and the Injured Police Officers Fund.
