Community Foundation Update (10/20/18)
Alaska
The Juneau Community Foundation and United Way of Southeast Alaska have awarded $24,000 to the Juneau School District in support of a districtwide breakfast program, the Juneau Empire reports. The funding will help bridge the gap between federal dollars, which provide free breakfasts for households that meet federal poverty guidelines, and the cost of offering breakfast to every middle and elementary school student in the district. According to JSD Board of Education president Brian Holst, by feeding all students the district helps reduce the stigma that some associate with receiving a free meal.
