Arizona

The Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) has announced that it awarded nearly $26.2 million in the second quarter of its fiscal year. Between July 1 and September 30, 2023, ACF’s funds and regional offices in Cochise, Flagstaff, the Gila Valley, Sedona, Yavapai County, and Yuma awarded scholarships and grants in five strategic priority areas: health innovations ($7.3 million), community improvement and development ($2.1 million), environment and sustainability ($913,322), arts and culture ($1.3 million), and quality education ($13.9 million, including $5 million in scholarships).

California

Calaveras Community Foundation has announced the election of Terri Tanner to its board. Tanner worked as a high school college/career counselor until retiring from Calaveras Unified School District in 2023. She has over 20 years of experience helping, fundraising, facilitating scholarship programs, public relations, and grantwriting.

The San Diego Foundation, in partnership with the San Diego Unified School District, has announced an RFP for programming for the summer 2024 edition of Level Up SD. The district will offer the program for students in Universal Transitional Kindergarten through eighth grade; sessions will be offered at 48 school sites for nine weeks at no cost to San Diego Unified families. The deadline to apply is January 9, 2024.

The Escondido Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of SDF, is accepting letters of intent for its annual grant cycle. Eligible nonprofits serving Escondido may submit proposals of $15,000 to $40,000 for projects to upgrade community spaces. ECF is hosting a grant seekers forum at 4 p.m. on November 30 at the Raymond Center for Community Philanthropy.

Delaware

The Delaware Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $6.075 million in support of Alzheimer’s disease research through the Paul H. Boerger Fund. The Penn Institute of Aging at the University of Pennsylvania will receive a five-year, $5 million grant for the development of new molecular therapies for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias; the Delaware Center for Neuroscience Research at Delaware State University was awarded a one-year, $500,000 grant to develop new mouse models that mimic the disease in humans; and the Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research at the University of Delaware will receive a one-year, $575,000 grant focused on linking modifiable lifestyle choices with accelerated dementia risk and identifying new interventions.

Illinois

The Community Foundation Serving West Central Illinois & Northeast Missouri has announced a $1.1 million bequest from the late Barbara L. McLean. The bequest will support the Community Endowment Fund, which supports programs such as the Nonprofit Excellence Initiative to build the effectiveness of local nonprofits.

Indiana

Central Indiana Community Foundation in Indianapolis has announced the appointment of Erin Tanner as chief financial officer (CFO). She is the owner of Tanner Business Solutions and previously served as CFO of Sycamore Rehabilitation Services and Wabash Center.

Maine

Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth has announced that its Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund, created to support victims of the October 25 mass shootings, has raised $1.8 million. More than $1.3 million has been designated by donors specifically to the Victims & Families portion of the fund, which will be directed by a local steering committee to the families of people killed, those who were injured, and those who were present at the time of the shootings who may have experienced trauma.

Michigan

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has announced a second round of microgrants from the Michigan Central/Church Street Fund for neighborhood improvement activities in the areas of arts and culture, community and economic development, and environment and public spaces in the Detroit neighborhoods of Corktown, North Corktown, and Hubbard Richard. The recipients of microgrants totaling $40,000 are Mexicantown Community Development Corporation, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, North Corktown Neighborhood Association, and Matrix Theatre Company.

New York

The Rockland Community Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2023 Food Pantry Grants to help combat food insecurity in Rockland County. In partnership with Inserra Supermarkets, the foundation awarded grants of $500 each to 20 food banks, up from 12 last year. Recipients include Capabilities Partnership, Head Start of Rockland, Rockland County Pride Center, and St. Ann’s Food Cupboard.

Oregon

Oregon Community Foundation  has awarded $4.7 million in community grants to 203 nonprofit organizations across the state providing arts, cultural, educational, equity, health, housing, and human services. Recipients include Cave Junction Farmers Market ($20,000), Comunidades ($30,000), Every Child Central Oregon ($25,000), and Nehalem Bay Health District ($30,000).

Texas

Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) in Dallas has announced the appointment of Calvert Collins-Bratton as its next chief relationship officer, effective December 4. Collins-Bratton will lead CFT’s relationships department and will serve as a senior leader in the areas of development, fundraising, and donor stewardship. She has represented District 13 on the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Board for the past six years, including as president from 2019 to 2021.

Permian Basin Area Foundation has awarded more than $2.8 million to organizations serving West Texans during its fall community grant cycle. Recipients include Aphasia Center of West Texas, Basin Dream Center for Orphans, Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland, Museum of the Big Bend, and Rape Crisis/Victim Services of Big Spring.

Washington

Seattle Foundation has announced the election of three new board members. Robin Devlin Lien is a business leader and diversity advocate with over two decades of experience in the tech world. Karla Horwitz is CEO and founder of Horwitz Group and WMP Capital. Taylor Hoang, head of community affairs at Amazon, has spent over 20 years promoting community growth, advocating for policy change, and fostering stakeholder relationships.
