Arizona

Phoenix-based Valley Leadership has announced that five local foundations — the Arizona Community Foundation, the Helios Education Foundation, the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, and the Vitalyst Health Foundation — have agreed to invest in its Pivot Toward Impact, a strategic change initiative aimed at creating a leadership culture in the state committed to delivering meaningful results on pressing issues. To that end, the five foundations have committed a total of $1 million over three years to help Valley Leadership revise its leadership training curriculum, engage in additional partnerships and collaboration, and develop teams that can mobilize, connect, and leverage the efforts of Arizona nonprofit leaders.

California

The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, has announced grants totaling $83,000 in support of twenty programs. Recipients include the Black Mountain Dance Foundation, Elder Help of San Diego, Include Autism, and Spirit of the Fourth.

Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced an initial investment of $2.9 million to establish the Greater Together Community Funds. Starting in the spring of 2019, each of the twenty-nine towns in the foundation's service area will receive $100,000 over two years to establish community funds, with half the money available to grant to local nonprofits as soon as a community has an advisory committee in place. The other half will be held in an endowment, with a percentage of those dollars available every year to grant out in accordance with HFPG's policies.

Indiana

The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced that its Women's Fund of Central Indiana has awarded grants totaling $289,830 to fifteen organizations working to help women in poverty achieve economic security. Recipients include the Community Alliance of the Far Eastside, PACE, Exodus Refugee Immigration, and the Julian Center.

Massachusetts

The Cape Cod Foundation has announced that its Cape Cod Young Professionals giving circle has awarded grants totaling $10,000 to six local organizations. Recipients include Cape Cod Child Development, Cape Cod Children's Place, the Community Development Partnership, the Housing Assistance Corporation, Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, and YMCA Cape Cod.

Nevada

The Community Foundation of Western Nevada in Reno has announced five grants totaling $52,627. Recipients include the Domestic Violence Resource Center, the Generator, Note-Ables Music Therapy Services, Urban Roots, and the Wells Family Resource Center.

Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced the winners of the 2018 Carol R. Brown Creative Achievement Awards, which recognize the work and achievements of an established and an emerging artist from the region. The established artist award was given to set designer Tony Ferrieri, while interdisciplinary artist Alisha B. Wormsley was honored with the emerging artist award. Offered as part of a joint program with the Pittsburgh Foundation and the Heinz Endowments, the awards include a $15,000 prize for each honoree.

Tennessee

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in Nashville has announced that it awarded more than $2.72 million in discretionary grants to 453 nonprofit organizations during 2018. The largest share of dollars was awarded in the areas of human services (16 percent), education (15 percent), and arts and culture (14 percent).
