Colorado

The Community Foundation Serving Boulder has announced that the Conservation Project in Boulder County, of which it is the fiscal sponsor, has received a two-year, $200,000 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation. The project will use the funding to foster meaningful and effective discussions about end-of-life care in the county.

Illinois

The DeKalb County Community Foundation in Sycamore has announced the creation of the Chulick Family Fund, a donor-advised fund created by Tony and Micki Chulick to align their philanthropic interests in the best interests of the community. Of the more than three hundred funds the foundation manages, twenty-eight are donor-advised funds.

Indiana

The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation, has announced grants totaling more than $1.7 million in support of thirty-two organizations. Recipients include ArtMix, Freewheelin' Community Bikes, the Little Red Door Cancer Agency, and Connnect2Help. In addition, the foundation's Legacy Fund has announced grants totaling nearly $82,000 in support of nonprofits in Hamilton County. Recipients include the Boys and Girls Club of Noblesville, Open Doors of Washington Township, and the Youth Assistance Program of Hamilton County.

Massachusetts

The Cape and Islands Partnership for Nonprofit Advancement, a regional collaborative that includes the Cape Cod Foundation, has announced the results of a large-scale community survey gauging the training and capacity-building needs of nonprofits on Cape Cod and the islands. The survey found that the top training needs of organizations in the area are, in order, fundraising, nonprofit management, executive/leadership training, and organizational strategy; donor relations and communication/marketing were tied for fifth. Results were consistent across all organization sizes. To boost training, the partnership has moved forward with efforts to enhance coordination of educational opportunities and collaboration on existing programming. It will also work to initiate new programming, specifically around leadership development, aimed at addressing some of the gaps identified by the survey.

Vermont

The Vermont Community Foundation in Middlebury has announced that funding is available to Vermont child care centers through the Edwards Child Care Scholarship Fund. Grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded to nonprofit child care centers in the state that serve young children (ages 3 and 4) from economically stressed families. The deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. on May 5.

Washington

The Seattle Foundation has announced that its Neighbor to Neighbor giving program has awarded grants of up to $5,000 to five organizations. The recipients are Circulo de Mamas Seattle, Ethiopian Community in Seattle, the Iraqi Women’s Association, the Somali Family Safety Task Force, and the South Sudanese Kuku Association.

West Virginia

The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation has announced the creation of the Teacher Support Fund in Memory of Rebecca Magnus. Established by the aunt and cousin of Magnus, an elementary school teacher who died of breast cancer in 2013, the fund will support K-1 educators teaching at Martin, Mineral Wells, or McKinley elementary schools. The distributions also will aid in the establishment of a Teachers Reimbursement Program at each of the schools.

Wisconsin

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has announced that, in partnership with Wells Fargo and the City of Milwaukee, it will award exterior home improvement grants to qualified homeowners in the Capitol Heights, Havenwoods, and Lincoln Village neighborhoods. Grants of between $800 and $3,000 will be awarded through the Healthy Neighborhoods Minor Home Improvement Pilot Program, with homeowners required to contribute at least 25 percent of the total project cost. For the program, the foundation is providing $150,000 from its co-investment with Wells Fargo, while Milwaukee’s Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation is contributing an additional $75,000.
