California
The San Francisco Foundation has appointed Robert Friedman to its board of directors. Founder and general counsel of the Corporation for Economic Development, Friedman also is the author of The Safety Net as Ladder: Transfer Payments and Economic Development.
Kansas
The Greater Salina Community Foundation has announced that it is implementing a new grant application process. Beginning July 1, funding from the foundation's unrestricted fund and several field-of-interest funds will be allocated through a year-round grant cycle, enabling charitable projects to be funded on a more timely basis.
Massachusetts
The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced that executive director Bob Hurlbut is retiring after twenty-one years. During a tribute in Hurlbut's honor, nearly $220,000 was raised in support of the newly launched Hurlbut Legacy Fund for Cambridge.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $1.1 million in support of fifty-four local arts organizations. Awarded through the foundation's Community Arts Fund, the grants include awards to the Center for Ongoing Research and Projects, A Portable Theater, the Actors' Theater of Columbus, and the Wexner Center for the Arts.
Vermont
The Vermont Community Foundation in Middlebury has appointed Emilye Pelow Corbett as its philanthropic advisor for the Upper Valley and southeastern Vermont.
West Virginia
The Tucker Community Foundation in Parsons has awarded scholarships totaling $70,000, the Preston County News & Journal reports. Students from six counties received awards ranging from $1,000 to $8,500.
