Alabama

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has announced that its Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services has awarded $50,000 in grants, a record, to eleven organizations focused on helping companion animals (dogs, cats, and horses) in Jefferson, Shelby, and Walker counties. Recipients include MomaKat Rescue, the Red Barn, Bama Bully Rescue, and Equines Helping Special Individuals.

California

The Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County in Aptos has announced grants totaling more than $1 million to fifty-four organizations. Recipients include Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, Digital Nest, Monarch Services, and Dientes Community Dental Care.

The San Francisco Foundation has appointed Gail Fuller as its vice president of marketing and strategic communications.

Connecticut

The Connecticut Community Foundation in Waterbury has announced grants totaling more than $100,000 in support of fifteen organizations working to boost young children’s education and development. Recipients include Reach out and Read, Naugatuck Partnership for Children, the Watertown Board of Education, and the Darcy School.

Kentucky

The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced the six winners of its 2016 Vogt Awards, which are aimed at helping startup ideas and new products develop into viable, successful businesses by providing non-dilutive funding, dedicated mentorship, workshops, and support. Recipients of the awards, each of whom will receive a $20,000 grant, include Breath Diagnostics, Collabra, Curio Learning, G3 Tri-Sports, Mailhaven, and RMC Solutions.

Michigan

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has announced more than $1 million in scholarships from fifty-three funds. Scholarship amounts ranged from $250 to $15,000.

Nebraska

The Omaha Foundation has appointed Susan Thaden and Deborah MacDonald to its board of directors.

Washington

The Seattle Foundation has announced that the Morgan Fund, a donor-advised fund at the foundation, will award grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 as part of its Puget Sound Initiative. Up to $150,000 will be awarded in support of small and midsize arts organizations in western and central Washington or the greater Portland area that are working to develop and build audiences for high-quality performances. Proposals will be considered for production support, equipment purchases, audience development initiatives, and professional development opportunities aimed at strengthening artistic quality.
