The Conrad Prebys Foundation in San Diego has announced grants totaling $13 million in its summer 2021 grant cycle.
A hundred and two arts, conservation, education, research, and human services nonprofits will receive grants ranging from $10,000 to $2 million. Recipients include the Foundation for Grossmont and Cuyamaca Colleges, which was awarded a multiyear, $150,000 grant in support of the retention and success of community college students in pandemic times; the Hubbs Sea World Research Institute, which will receive $25,000 to study the impacts of global warming on marine fish species in California; Neighborhood Healthcare, which was awarded $50,000 for its hypertension management initiative; Rady Children's Hospital Foundation-San Diego, which will receive $1 million in support of efforts to deliver proactive, personalized pediatric cardiac care; the Salvation Army, which was awarded a multiyear, $2 million grant in support of the Homeless to Home Campaign for the Rady Center; and the San Diego Humane Society, which will receive $50,000 in support of efforts to rescue and rehabilitate local wildlife.
"During his lifetime, Conrad Prebys experienced so much joy when giving to causes he was passionate about," Conrad Prebys Foundation board chair Tony Cortes, a longtime friend of Prebys, told the Times of San Diego. "The foundation board and staff hope these gifts will inspire others in the community to experience that same joy by giving to the causes and organizations that matter most to them."
