Council on Foundations announces 2023 Council Awards recipients
The Council on Foundations has announced the recipients of its 2023 Council Awards, which celebrate the accomplishments of extraordinary individuals and organizations in philanthropy.
Anne Kubisch received the Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrated trust, integrity, and courage consistently throughout their careers. Kubisch, who stepped down as the Ford Family Foundation’s president and CEO in September after 10 years, transformed the foundation into a nationally recognized advocate for rural communities, developed a 10-year strategic plan, and authored books at the Aspen Institute that have become core references for the field.
The Scrivner Award for Creative Grantmaking, which recognizes an organization whose staff has exemplified vision and creativity in their grantmaking work, was awarded to the Chicago Community Trust for “We Rise Together: For an Equitable & Just Recovery,” a funder collaborative launched in 2020 that works to build thriving local economies in Black and Latinx neighborhoods for a stronger Chicago region.
And Marvin Carr, director of Walmart.org’s Center for Racial Equity, received the Outstanding Corporate Philanthropy Leadership Award, which is presented to an individual at a corporate foundation or giving program who excels in building partnerships and pursuing corporate social responsibility. He was recognized for his efforts to break the generational cycle of incarceration by partnering with organizations providing economic opportunities for at-risk youth.
