Cummings Foundation awards $25 million to Boston-area nonprofits

The Cummings Foundation in Woburn, Massachusetts, has announced a hundred and forty grants totaling $25 million in support of Boston-area nonprofits.

A hundred organizations were awarded grants of $100,000 to be disbursed over two to five years, while the remaining forty will receive grants ranging from $200,000 to $500,000 over ten years. Recipients of $100,000 grants include Andover Senior Community Friends (Andover), which will use the funds to provide adaptive equipment, technology, furnishings, and fixtures to ensure the accessibility of its newly renovated senior center; Breaktime United (Boston), which will use its grant to provide young adults experiencing homelessness with four weeks of job-readiness training; Community Conversations: Sister to Sister Women's Health Initiative (Cambridge), which will use the funds to provide a safe, intimate space for Black women to come together and tackle barriers to better health; and the Merrimack Valley Project (Lawrence), which will establish a free regional transportation program for those struggling with substance use disorder.

Recipients of ten-year grants include the Boston Asian Youth Essential Service (Boston), which was awarded $250,000 to fund two street counselors in the city's Asian neighborhoods; Boston Home, which will receive $500,000 to provide access to critical services that support independence and well-being for people with disabilities; the Council of Social Concern (Woburn), which was awarded $350,000 to provide subsidized child care to low-income working families and children experiencing abuse and/or neglect and provide food assistance to Woburn and Winchester residents; Communities for Restorative Justice (Concord), which will receive $500,000 to expand access to restorative justice options for people impacted by criminal cases, including the creation of fellowships for formerly incarcerated individuals; and the  Venture Cafe Foundation (Cambridge), which was awarded $500,000 to expand its small business and entrepreneurship programs.
