Dallas Bridge Project Receives $12 Million From Hunt Petroleum Corp.

The Dallas-based Hunt Petroleum Corporation has made a $12 million donation to the Trinity Trust to help fund the design of a freeway bridge that will span the Trinity River, the Dallas Morning News reports.

In recognition of the gift, the bridge, which is expected to cost $110 million and will be designed by world-renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, will be named for Margaret Hunt Hill, matriarch of the H.L. Hunt family, which owns Hunt Petroleum. A second bridge, which is awaiting matching federal funds, will bear the name of Margaret McDermott, a Dallas philanthropist who has been integral to the bridges' design.

"There is no great city in the United States of America that doesn't have generous patrons, people willing to give of their treasure and also of their hearts," said Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX). "This vision, when it is accomplished, is going to be the focal point of Dallas. We are creating something that's going to make a mark forever."
