Daniels Fund Awards $6 Million in Grants

The Denver-based Daniels Fund has announced $6 million in second-quarter grants, which will support programs related to aging, alcoholism and substance abuse, amateur sports, disabilities, education, homeless and disadvantaged, and youth development.

Using percentages established by its late founder, cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, the fund awarded $3.8 million in grants to Colorado metro areas; $1.15 million to programs elsewhere in Colorado; $290,914 to programs in New Mexico; $97,500 to programs in Utah; $175,150 to programs in Wyoming; and $460,000 to national programs. Grant recipients in Colorado included the Alliance for Choice in Education; the Cesar Chavez Academy in Pueblo; the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (Rural Initiatives); Craig Hospital; Escuela de Guadalupe; the Hmong American Association of Colorado; the Hospice of Metro Denver, Inc.; the Poudre School District (School Partners Program); Qualistar Early Learning; Roaring Fork School District No. RE-1; Rocky Mountain Health Care Services; Urban Peak Denver; and the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes.

"Nonprofit organizations strengthen our communities by providing vital services, yet often struggle with a lack of funding," said fund president and CEO Linda Childears. "We are honored to partner with these organizations in fulfilling Bill Daniels' vision of bringing help and hope to those in need."
