Deer Creek Fund Awards $4 Million for Ice Rink
Hailey Ice, an Idaho-based nonprofit that promotes ice skating and ice sports, has announced a $4 million gift from Wood River Valley philanthropist Lynn Campion-Waddell in support of a new indoor ice rink.
Awarded through the Deer Creek Fund, Campion-Waddell's family foundation and a component fund of the Denver-based Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation, the gift will support construction of the $5.5 million rink in Hailey. In recognition of the gift, the rink will be named Campion Ice House.
When completed in November 2015, the rink is expected to help local businesses generate revenues of as much as $18,000 annually. "Our foundation considers this gift to be a wise investment in our community," said Campion-Waddell, who serves as board chair of the Johnson Foundation. "If kids and families from the south valley have easy access to ice for at least eight months a year, what could be better? The rink can be used for other activities in the summer months, bringing in more revenue to help our local economy."
