Denison University receives $10 million for global, career programs

Denison University in Granville, Ohio, has announced a $10 million gift from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation in support of efforts to provide students with expanded global study and research opportunities and career support.

The funding will support a newly launched Center for Global Programs that integrates the school's study abroad and off-campus programs with international student support resources. The center's signature programs include study abroad, Global Scholar Residencies, international internships, research, and Denison Seminars. It also is developing new programs aimed at globalizing campus dynamics and learning by leveraging the knowledge and life experiences of international students and students returning from study abroad.

In addition, the gift will support the Knowlton Center for Career Exploration, which works to provide students and young alumni with the critical thinking skills, knowledge, and networks they need to launch successful careers, bolstering its summer internship fund and First Look programs, which provide students with opportunities to learn about specific companies and career paths through informational sessions, tours, and networking opportunities.

"A liberal arts education gives our students a depth of knowledge combined with a breadth of practical experiences that together ignite enterprising ideas and build the creativity, persistence, and critical thinking skills that form a foundation for a lifetime of success," said Denison University president Adam Weinberg. "We are extraordinarily grateful to the Sherman Fairchild Foundation for these opportunities to enrich our students through new possibilities."
