Donor pledges multimillion-dollar gift for Catholic education
The Catholic Diocese of Greensburg in southwestern Pennsylvania has announced a multimillion-dollar gift from an anonymous donor in support of student tuition.
The gift will support the St. Pope John Paul II Tuition Opportunity Partnership at Catholic schools in the Diocese of Greensburg. Last year, the same individual donated more than $2.5 million in support of tuition for prospective students. Coupled with new corporate and individual donors, the latest gift is expected to make nearly $20 million available in tuition support over the next five years.
To be eligible for funding, students must be part of a faith community. "It doesn't have to be a Catholic faith community," Maureen Marsteller, superintendent of Catholic schools in the diocese, told KDKA CBS Pittsburgh. "It can be a denominational church, a Christian faith community, and we want them to become an active member of that community."
"I can't express how happy we are here in the Greensburg Diocese," said Bishop Larry Kulick. "And I'm so happy for the opportunity for the children and youth of our diocese...to experience Catholic education."
