Duke Endowment awards $25 million to Davidson College
Davidson College in North Carolina has announced a $25 million commitment from the Duke Endowment in support of scholarships, student experiences, and new professorships.
Half of the gift will support the Davidson Trust, which provides grants and work-study jobs to help meet the demonstrated financial need of students, with a focus on those from the Carolinas. Nearly a third of the remaining funding will support high-impact student experiences, such as research opportunities, fellowships, professional development opportunities, and summer programs; and the final portion will endow two professorships aimed at attracting practitioners to the classroom to relate how the liberal arts curriculum leads to career paths in areas such as public policy, education, and law.
“We are proud to continue our support of the exceptional students and faculty at Davidson College,” said Duke Endowment board chair Minor Shaw. “Year after year, we see how the college prepares the next generation of leaders, and we believe in the ways this gift will enable continued access and excellence, both through bringing talent to campus and through out-of-classroom engagement and opportunities.”
