Duke University Receives $1.25 Million for Athletics, Arts & Sciences

Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, has announced a $1.25 million gift from alumnus and former Duke and NBA basketball great Grant Hill and his wife, Tamia.

The lion's share of the gift, $1 million, will go to Duke Athletics for facility upgrades, while the remainder of the gift will be earmarked for the Duke Annual Fund in support of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. The gift will count toward the university's $3.25 billion Duke Forward campaign, which includes a $250 million goal for the athletics program for facility enhancements, scholarship and program endowments, and operating funds.

A four-year letterman in basketball from 1991 to 1994, Hill helped Duke win NCAA championships in 1991 and 1992. After college, he was a five-time NBA all-star in a professional career that spanned eighteen seasons.

"This generous gift from Grant and Tamia will enhance the college experience of many future Duke students across several disciplines, including athletics," said Duke Athletics vice president and director Kevin White. "The fact that it comes from someone who is synonymous with the excellence that defines this great institution makes it even more special."
