Emory University in Atlanta has announced a gift of $2.5 million from Mary E. and C. Robert Henrikson to boost the reach of an endowed scholarship established by the couple a decade ago to promote diversity withn the law school's student body.

The largest individual gift ever made to the Emory School of Law includes $1.5 million for the C. Robert Henrikson Endowed Scholarship Fund and $1 million for additional financial aid. The gift also will serve as a challenge grant for matching gifts to the law school's annual fund.

Established in 2002, the Henrikson Scholarship Fund has contributed to enhancing student diversity at the law school, which is already among the most diverse law school student bodies in the country. Henrikson, who graduated from Emory Law in 1972, is former president and CEO as well as chairman of the board of MetLife and serves on the board of trustees of Emory University.

"The Henrikson scholarship has been very important to our efforts to build a diverse class of talented students each year," said law school dean Robert A. Schapiro. "This new gift will greatly extend the endowment's current reach. The Henriksons' commitment to emphasizing the rich diversity of our student body is an inspiration to the entire Emory Law community — faculty, alumni, students, and staff."
