F.M. Kirby Foundation announces $6.1 million in grants

The F.M. Kirby Foundation in Morristown, New Jersey, has announced 83 grants totaling $6.1 million.

The majority of the grants will provide unrestricted funding to nonprofits working to foster self-reliance and create strong, healthy communities. According to the foundation, providing unrestricted general operating support gives its partners the flexibility to determine where funds are needed to best support their missions.

The early 2022 grantmaking includes continued COVID-19 recovery support and increased contributions to long-term partners in the fields of arts and humanities, education, environment, health and medicine, human services, public policy, and religion. New grantees include El Futuro in Durham, North Carolina; Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania in Princeton, New Jersey; and the Fund for the Central Adirondacks, hosted by the Adirondack Foundation. In addition, the Kirby Foundation awarded a $75,000 grant to the Americares Foundation in support of its response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

“As our nonprofit partners work to recover from the pandemic, address staffing challenges, and build capacity for the challenges ahead, general operating support is critical,” said Kirby Foundation executive director Justin Kiczek. “Unrestricted funding demonstrates our trust in nonprofit leaders and staff to deploy their own resources strategically.”
