Father Martin's Ashley Receives $13 Million Gift
Father Martin's Ashley, an alcohol and drug addiction treatment center in Havre de Grace, Maryland, has announced a $13 million gift from the Skip Viragh Foundation toward construction of a new 44,000-square-foot facility.
Scheduled for completion in fall 2015, the $20 million facility will house the organization's pain recovery program as well as a wellness and fitness center, admissions area, and nursing stations. Offering single or double-occupancy rooms, Skip's Hall for Integrated Addiction Treatment, as the new facility will be named, will support the treatment of up to a hundred patients at a time. To date, Ashley has raised $18 million of its $20 million goal for construction of the new building.
Albert P. "Skip" Viragh, Jr., who passed away in 2003 at the age of 62, was the founder of Rydex Investments in Rockville, Maryland.
"We are treating an increasing number of patients who are dealing with addiction to multiple substances and complex medical challenges," said Dr. Bernadette Solounias, vice president of treatment services at Ashley. "Research has evolved dramatically in the last five to ten years and we know much more about addiction as a brain disease as well as the role of co-occurring medical conditions, both physical and behavioral. The new building will facilitate integrated, individualized treatment designed for the 21st century patient who requires a multi-disciplinary approach."
