Flinn Foundation Announces 2019 Scholars

The Phoenix-based Flinn Foundation has announced the 2019 class of Flinn Scholars.

Hailing from nineteen high schools in the Phoenix metro area, this year's cohort was selected from a record number of eight hundred and ninety-four applicants. Each student will receive a full-tuition scholarship valued at more than $120,000 to attend Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, or the University of Arizona.

In addition to tuition, fees, housing, and meals, the merit-based program provides students with a three-week seminar in China and at least one additional study-abroad experience, as well as mentorship, membership in a university honors college, and specially designed intellectual, cultural, and social activities. The high school seniors selected for this year's cohort are focused on a variety of study areas, including biochemistry, psychology, economics, mechanical and environmental engineering, mathematics, Mandarin, nursing, agribusiness, philosophy, biomedical science, and computer science.

"Each Flinn Scholar we meet is unique, but these students have something in common besides the capacity to excel in the classroom," said Flinn Foundation president and CEO Tammy McLeod. "They have deep dedication to their schools, communities, the future of Arizona, and the world. The Flinn Foundation is excited not only to announce this new class of Flinn Scholars but to see what lies ahead for them and our state."
