Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee has announced a $9.5 million bequest from the estate of alumnus Granville L. Larimore.
The unrestricted gift will be evenly distributed between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy. The colleges will establish endowments in Larimore’s name of $3.5 million each, intended to support academic and faculty excellence. For each college, its remaining $1.2 million will be directed to immediate needs, including faculty and student support. Larimore, who died in February at the age of 86, received degrees in history and economics from FSU in the early 1960s before embarking on a career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“This gift from Granville Larimore and [his] family will have lasting impacts within FSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy,” said college dean Tim Chapin. “These funds will be invested in our world-class faculty and students, as well as yield expansions to our programming, all in alignment with Mr. Larimore’s belief that higher education can play a key role in making a better world.”
