Ford, Mellon commit an additional $5 million to Disability Futures

Disability Futures, an initiative launched last October with the aim of increasing the visibility and elevating the voices of disabled artists and creative practitioners, has announced additional commitments totaling $5 million from the Ford and Andrew W. Mellon foundations.

Administered by United States Artists, the program created for and by disabled practitioners awarded unrestricted grants of $50,000 last fall to twenty inaugural Disability Futures Fellows working in various disciplines. The new commitments will help fund the initiative — originally conceived as an eighteen-month effort — through 2025 and includes support for two additional cohorts of fellows.

On July 19 and 20 the initiative will host its first Disability Futures Virtual Festival featuring art and ideas from some of today's leading disabled artists, writers, performers, and designers, including many of the inaugural fellows.
