Foundation for Jewish Camp secures $10 million for 2021 camp season
The Foundation for Jewish Camp has announced grants totaling more than $10 million from several foundations to help camps meet COVID-19 requirements and welcome campers this summer.
Of the total, $2.6 million from the Jewish Community Response and Impact Fund will be regranted as Capacity Expansion Grants to help thirty-two camps add space for campers and staff, including temporary housing structures such as tents and yurts, enhancements to infirmary and dining facilities, and creative solutions for quarantining in the event of of COVID infections. In addition, FJC will receive grants totaling more than $8 million from the Marcus Foundation in Atlanta and the Chicago-based Crown Family Philanthropies in support of overnight camps in their respective regions; from the Israel Henry Beren Foundation and a private family foundation in support of efforts to attract campers this summer through the organization's One Happy Camper incentive program; and a foundation that wishes to remain anonymous in support of a Small Community Incentives initiative and a partnership with fifteen overnight camps.
"Camps want nothing more than to provide a safe, healthy, and joyful Jewish environment for campers, and although many challenges and uncertainties remain, I feel the optimism and anticipation as FJC and our camp partners work diligently to ensure a safe and successful summer 2021," said Foundation for Jewish Camp CEO Jeremy Fingerman. "FJC's priority is to support Jewish camps through and beyond this crisis, so we're thrilled that the JCRIF funders have invested $2.6 million for capacity expansion, and we hope others will join to support this efficient, effective initiative."
