Foundations, corporations providing support for Ukraine (04/17/2022)

The European regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the Denmark-based Novo Nordisk Foundation has donated 25 million kroner (about $3.6 million) in support of WHO’s emergency response in Ukraine and countries hosting Ukrainian refugees. The funds can be used to cover urgent needs in WHO’s response to the complex health emergency, where the situation on the ground is extremely fluid.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation has announced $1 million in emergency relief grants to aid those affected by the war in Ukraine. Recipients include Doctors of the World Spain, Choose Love, the Lumos Foundation, and Save the Children.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation in Kyiv has announced that it is donating a pair of compressors to Cradles of Hope to ensure the operation of respiratory equipment at the Ternopil Regional Perinatal Centre maternal center and the Perinatal Centre of the Volyn Regional Territorial Medical Association in Lutsk, Ukraine. Valued at 236,000 Ukrainian hryvni (approximately $8,000), the two compressors will provide uninterrupted operation of ventilators and respiratory support for babies in critical conditions.

Welcome.US and 35 CEOs are launching the Welcome.US CEO Council, an effort to accelerate and scale private sector support for those seeking refuge and to galvanize a culture of welcoming. Co-chaired by Accenture chair and CEO Julie Sweet and Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, the Welcome.US CEO Council has members from many of America’s largest and most iconic companies. Members of the Welcome.US CEO Council collectively have pledged more than $75 million in new financial and in-kind donations, bringing Welcome.US private-sector partners’ total contributions to more than $159 million in support of Welcome.US, resettlement organizations, and nonprofits assisting Afghan and Ukrainian newcomers.

The Zoetis Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the global animal health company, has announced that it will distribute $4.9 million during its first round of 2022 grants, supporting 20 initiatives based in 19 countries to enable thriving professions and livelihoods for livestock farmers and veterinary professionals as well as relief efforts in Ukraine. In addition to assisting organizations that will provide greater access to education and mental wellness resources, expand veterinary debt relief, support diversity and inclusion efforts, and help enable thriving livelihoods, the Zoetis Foundation is helping to provide critical support to affected communities with an initial donation of $150,000 to the Red Cross and is matching colleague donations made to the organization globally (up to $150,000).
