The Eden Hall Foundation and the Heinz Endowments have announced commitments of $10 million each in support of a multiyear economic revitalization program for downtown Pittsburgh.

The pledges were announced to align with the Allegheny Conference on Community Development’s new three-year agenda, which will prioritize downtown revitalization alongside inclusive growth, thought leadership, and greater federal investment. Funds from Eden Hall will be available over the next five years as grants for downtown revitalization initiatives. Heinz will establish a coordination center to support renewable energy expansion, facility upgrades, and clean energy jobs and investments, while directing its $10 million in support of grantwriting, project development, legal guidance, and communications efforts for groups that qualify for federal Inflation Reduction Act incentives and grants.

“We want to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to expand climate-friendly policies, investments, and practices that have the potential to create a healthier region,” said Heinz Endowments president Chris DeCardy. “We also want to support the creation of good-paying jobs for the future as we work toward both a healthy environment and a healthy economy.”

“The region has made significant progress and has reinvented itself since we started in the 1980s,” said Eden Hall Foundation president Sylvia Fields. “But, like many U.S. cities, Pittsburgh faces new challenges as we continue to emerge from the pandemic. We are proud to strengthen our commitment to creating vibrant, healthy, and knowledgeable communities.”
