Foundations sign Donor Statement on Supporting Locally Led Development

Two people solidifying a partnership with a handshake.

USAID has announced that 15 foundations have endorsed its Donor Statement on Supporting Locally Led Development.

Announced during the UN General Assembly, the donor statement outlines actions to foster locally sustained change that is tied to each country’s unique context. When the statement was released in December 2022, 15 donor countries, including USAID, endorsed the statement. Since then, three additional countries—Denmark, Slovenia, and Sweden—have endorsed the statement, bringing the total number to 18. The philanthropic organizations endorsing the donor statement include, but are not limited to: Fundación Avina and the Charles Stewart Mott, Conrad N. Hilton, David and Lucile Packard, Draper Richards Kaplan, Ford, and GHR foundations.

According to USAID, the endorsements demonstrate the resonance of the commitments in the statement: to shift and share power, work to channel high quality funding as directly as possible, and publicly advocate for locally led development.
