Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center receives $78 million gift
The Seattle-based Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has announced a $78 million gift from Stuart and Molly Sloan in support of precision oncology.
The largest gift in the center’s history will establish the Stuart and Molly Sloan Precision Oncology Institute, which will conduct precision oncology research, integrating fundamental biology, technology, immunology, data science, and clinical experience. The institute will be housed in a new building to be named for the couple that will provide space for researchers, their teams, and new technologies to support collaborative research. In addition, the gift will support a new leader for the institute, create an endowed chair, and provide funds for postdoctoral fellowships, sequencing projects, and other programmatic investments.
Longtime supporters of the center, Stuart Sloan is the founding sponsor of Obliteride, one of the center’s major fundraising events, and Molly Sloan serves on the center’s board of advisors.
“Miracles begin in the lab, and nowhere else is that truer than at Fred Hutch,” said Stuart Sloan. “I’ve been involved with this organization for years, and during that time, I have had the opportunity to personally interact with the scientists and leaders who are making this progress possible. With their history of breakthroughs in bone marrow transplantation and immunotherapy, Fred Hutch has demonstrated the ability to transform scientific discoveries into treatments that benefit cancer patients all around the world.”
