Gates Foundation commits $75 million to Washington state education
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $75 million over the next four years to increase enrollment in postsecondary education programs in Washington state, GeekWire reports.
Part of the foundation’s U.S. Program, the Washington State initiative will support state-specific education programs and focus on bridging the gap between high school and postsecondary education. To that end, the foundation will invite local organizations to apply to become part of a “learning network” and examine why students aren’t applying to postsecondary education and find solutions.
“Ultimately, we’re working to create well-lit pathways to postsecondary credentials and to interrupt that bias that adults might have,” Washington STEM chief impact officer Jenée Myers Twitchell told GeekWire.
