Genesis Philanthropy Group offers $10 million in assistance in Ukraine
Genesis Philanthropy Group (GPG), which is focused on Jewish identity-building and education programs, has announced that it will deliver $10 million in emergency assistance to Jews impacted by the crisis in Ukraine.
The emergency aid package will be distributed in two phases. Half the commitment will assist several groups address urgent needs related to the current crisis, including the Jewish Agency for Israel, Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), and regional and local Jewish community organizations. The remaining $5 million will be deployed in support of humanitarian aid as the situation develops.
“As we watch with great distress the scenes coming from Ukraine, we see it as our duty to help Jews in danger, as we have done in other times and places,” said Genesis Philanthropy Group board chair Gennady Gazin. “As someone born in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, I am especially pained by this suffering. I hope that peace will return, and the Ukranian Jewish community will be able to withstand these hardships and thrive again.”
