Google announces support for digital skills training for Latinos
Google has announced it is expanding its support for the Latino community through a partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
The partnership will include $2 million in grants to Latino organizations and the addition of Spanish subtitled video-lessons on Google Career Certificate programs. The funding for the first group of more than 20 Hispanic-serving partner institutions will support investments in career counselors and faculty and the training of 200,000 Latino college students. In addition, Google.org has awarded $5 million in grants to UnidosUS, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the Hispanic Federation to help members of the Latino community prepare for jobs in the digital economy. To that end, the organizations will work with local affiliates across the country to reach more than 5,000 Latino jobseekers.
The latest announcements build on more $20 million in grants from Google.org to advance economic mobility in the Latino community, and its efforts to create tools that help the community develop their digital skills.
