Google commits $20 million for cybersecurity clinics
Google has announced a $20 million commitment in support of cybersecurity clinics at higher education institutions across the United States.
Awarded through Google.org, the funding will support the creation and expansion of cybersecurity clinics at 20 higher education institutions in collaboration with the Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics. Such clinics operate similarly to law or medical school clinics, giving students the opportunity to learn and improve their skills, while helping to protect critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and energy grids. Google employee volunteers will serve as mentors at many of the clinics, and the company will award schools Titan Security Keys, which provide cybersecurity through two-factor authentication.
“We see [artificial intelligence] as one of the most critical technologies that will impact national security over the next decade,” wrote Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai in a blog post. “We’re committed to working with all our partners on this important issue, and excited to help empower the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.”
