Greater Twin Cities United Way awards $12.1 million to nonprofits

Greater Twin Cities United Way (GTCUW) has announced grants totaling $12.1 million to 90 nonprofits working to address poverty, especially in communities that are disproportionally impacted.

The funding includes grants to nonprofits focused on equitable access to housing, food, education; in support of partnerships between schools and businesses that provide purpose-driven work experiences and increased pay for youth; and in support of training in trauma-sensitive care for early childhood education providers through United Way’s 80x3: Resilient from the Start innovation initiative.

“In the Greater Twin Cities region, we have grown more widely aware over the last two years that race and ethnicity sit at the intersection of disparities in income, housing, education and overall well-being,” said Greater Twin Cities United Way senior vice president of community impact Acooa Ellis. “Our grantmaking strategies are based on evidence that shows investing more heavily in organizations with strong racial equity practices and responsive, community driven programming, leads to deeper impact on life outcomes.”
