GSK—formerly GlaxoSmithKline—a multinational pharmaceutical company based in the United Kingdom, has announced the 2022 winners of its IMPACT Awards, which are intended to strengthen nonprofits working to improve the health and welfare of people in historically underrepresented communities in the greater Philadelphia area and the North Carolina Research Triangle.

The 20 awardees (10 nonprofits from each region) will each receive $50,000 as capacity-building grants to further improve community health through innovation, measured outcomes, collaborative partnerships, accountability, and racial equity. Awards in Philadelphia are distributed in partnership with the Philadelphia Foundation. To date, GSK has awarded more than $14 million in unrestricted funding to local nonprofits across the two regions that are home to the company’s U.S. corporate hubs. In the UK, the company funds a similar grant program in partnership with the King’s Fund.

Recipients in the North Carolina Research Triangle include Community Empowerment Fund, CORA Food Pantry, Durham Community Land Trustees, Rebuilding Together of the Triangle, StepUp Ministry, Student U, Swing Pals, the Center for Volunteer Caregiving, the LGBTQ Center of Durham, and White Oak Foundation. Recipients in the greater Philadelphia area include the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, Beyond Literacy, Girls on the Run Philadelphia, the Hand2Paw Foundation, the Mitzvah Circle Foundation, Philadelphia City Rowing, Philadelphia VIP, Rock to the Future, SeniorLAW Center, and the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians.

“GSK’s IMPACT Awards bring a thoughtful and consistent approach to supporting well-run nonprofits,” said Philadelphia Foundation president Pedro A. Ramos. “The flexible, general operating dollars these IMPACT Awards provide are precious to the organizations that receive them, as is the endorsement they reflect.”
