Gund Foundation awards $11.5 million in grants
The Cleveland-based George Gund Foundation has announced grants totaling $11.5 million in its latest grant cycle.
Awards include up to $2.5 million in nonpartisan democracy-building efforts across the state, including grants to nine organizations: Greater Cleveland Congregations, Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association, Khnemu Foundation, Ohio Debate Commission, Ohio Organizing Collaborative, Ohio Progressive Collaborative Education Fund, Ohio Voice, Ohio Women’s Alliance, and the Tides Foundation.
Other recipients focused on the foundation’s priority areas of racial equity and climate justice include City Fresh, which was awarded $150,000 over three years to mitigate the decline of grocery stores in Cleveland neighborhoods of color; Union Miles Development Corporation, which was awarded $500,000 over two years in capacity-building support to help advance the City of Cleveland’s Southeast Side Strategy; and The HistoryMakers, which was awarded $200,000 over two years for its work as the nation’s largest African American video oral history archive and the digital repository for the Black experience.
