Hamilton Families Receives $11 Million to End Family Homelessness

Hamilton Families, which works to end family homelessness in the San Francisco Bay Area, has announced an $11 million commitment from the Crankstart Foundation, the giving vehicle of Silicon Valley investor Michael Moritz and his wife, novelist Harriet Heyman.

The commitment includes $4 million in support of the organization's Heading Home campaign, a $30 million public-private initiative aimed at scaling supportive services to meet critical demand, and $7 million as part of a matching grant campaign. Launched in 2016, Heading Home was led by San Francisco mayor Edwin Lee before his death in December. Over the past year, Hamilton Families has helped more than five hundred families move into housing and resolve their homelessness.

"Crankstart has provided critical leadership and investment toward our community's largest civic challenge," said Hamilton Families CEO Tomiquia Moss. "We're grateful to the foundation for this continued support and investing in solutions. Their partnership allows for thought leadership and the cultivation of cross-sector solutions to a complex problem. We are deeply aware that there is so much more work to ensure long-term sustainability for families so that they do not return to homelessness. Today, we honor the great leadership in San Francisco to solve our most pressing issues."
