Harold Hamm Foundation Awards $34 Million to Diabetes Center
The University of Oklahoma has announced a $34 million gift from the Harold Hamm Foundation in support of the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at OU Medicine.
To be paid out over ten years, the largest gift to the center since it was established in 2007 with a gift from Harold and Sue Ann Hamm will support talent, technology, and research focused on finding a cure for diabetes. To that end, the funds will support diabetes research projects for which traditional funding mechanisms do not exist, enabling researchers to determine the feasibility of new and novel concepts, as well as the hiring of faculty and researchers and the development of new programs and facilities.
"I believe that breakthroughs in diabetes will occur in the lab, and we want to foster an environment where the best and brightest are exploring all pathways to a cure at the HHDC," said Hamm.
"We are very grateful to Harold for his continued support of research toward a cure for a disease that affects so many Oklahomans," said University of Oklahoma president Jim Gallogly. "This gift is important in our goal of doubling research at OU, and it will directly impact hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans and people around the world."
