Harvard Receives $30 Million Gift From Alumnus
Harvard University has received a $30 million gift from alumnus Joseph J. O'Donnell and his wife, Kathleen, with at least some of the funds earmarked for scholarships and financial aid, the Boston Globe reports.
O'Donnell, who founded Boston Concessions, which is now part of food service giant Centerplate, made the gift in support of Harvard's long-term mission to offer a quality education to all students, regardless of socioeconomic status. According to O'Donnell, who is a member of the Harvard Corporation and a director of the Associates of Harvard Business School, approximately two-thirds of Harvard students receive financial aid, and the university awarded $170 million in grants and scholarships last year.
"I was a scholarship kid all the way through Harvard and Harvard Business School," O'Donnell told the Globe. "I just want to make sure other bright young kids get that opportunity."
