HCA Healthcare, foundation awarded more than $41 million in 2021
HCA Healthcare in Nashville has announced that the organization and its foundation awarded more than $41 million to community organizations in 2021.
The funding includes contributions made to organizations focused on addressing disaster relief, education, and high-priority community needs, as well as matching gifts in support of employees’ charities of choice. Grants included $250,000 to TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, Kentucky, after a severe tornado system struck the area; $60,000 in support of HCA Healthcare’s inaugural Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows Food & Nutrition Drive, which provided 240,000 meals in addition to 77,830 meals donated by colleagues and 52,000 meals funded by employees’ charitable donations; and more than $5.5 million to 145 nonprofits in Middle Tennessee in support of programs in the areas of health and well-being, primary care or basic needs services, education, and the arts.
Last year marked the launch of two initiatives. In May 2021, the HCA Healthcare Foundation expanded its presence with the launch of its Healthier Tomorrow Fund, an $80 million community impact fund established to support initiatives focused on urgent community needs and health equity in 25 communities in five states where HCA Healthcare operates. Since its launch, the fund has allocated $4.5 million to 13 organizations, including the American Heart Association, Jobs for America’s Graduates, and Educate Texas. Also in May, HCA Healthcare announced a $10 million commitment over three years to support historically Black colleges and universities and Hispanic-serving institutions within its footprint.
“For more than 50 years, HCA Healthcare has been caring for the communities where its colleagues live and work, and 2021 marked significant milestones in expanding the ways we give back,” said Joanne Pulles, vice president of community engagement at HCA Healthcare and president of the HCA Healthcare Foundation. “Whether it’s through volunteering our time, making charitable donations or partnering with other organizations, we are committed to improving more lives in more ways.”
