High Point University Announces $10 Million Gift From Ronald and Joyce Wanek Foundation
High Point University in High Point, North Carolina, has announced a $10 million gift from the Ronald and Joyce Wanek Foundation.
According to Ronald Wanek, founder of Ashley Furniture Industries, the unrestricted gift recognizes the university's educational efforts in the areas of entrepreneurship, technology, business, and the free enterprise system. "The educational emphasis on communication and leadership that is the focus of High Point University is providing essential skills to tomorrow's leaders," said Wanek, who started his company in 1970 with thirty-five employees.
HPU, which has tripled its enrollment and quadrupled the size of its campus in the last seven years, has received ten eight-figure gifts over the past six years and is currently planning a state-of-the-art facility to house its health sciences and pharmacy department.
"The $10 million gift from the Waneks and their foundation is a wonderful example of philanthropy and outstanding citizenship," said HPU president Dr. Nido Qubein. "We are deeply grateful for their friendship and generosity."
