Hollywood Foreign Press Association Awards $1.25 Million in Grants
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced grants totaling nearly $1.25 million to twenty-nine film schools and other film-related organizations around the country.
A total of $370,000 will fund fellowships at educational institutions, including the California Institute of the Arts, which was awarded $60,000; the Columbia University School of the Arts, which will receive $50,000; and the American Film Institute, which was awarded $30,000. Other grants include $350,000 to the Film Foundation to preserve HFPA-approved films; $100,000 to the Sundance Institute for its Creative Producing Summit and Writer/Director Labs; $50,000 to FilmAid International to support filmmaking by refugees in Kenya; and $25,000 to Inner-City Arts for its pre-professional animation training program.
"Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association always look forward to our annual summer luncheon," said HFPA president Philip Berk. "Not only do we celebrate the installation of the organization's new officers and board members, we take pride in donating over $1 million in charitable contributions to many outstanding film-related charities and educational institutions. We are fortunate that the success of the Golden Globes allows us to do so. Over the past fifteen years, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Foundation has presented more than $10.5 million in financial grants to dozens of film schools and nonprofit organizations."
