The Home Depot Foundation has announced a $2 million commitment to provide disaster relief in communities impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Last week, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm and wreaked havoc across five additional southern states, killing more than a hundred people and leaving millions of survivors without power, supplies, or shelter. The foundation’s funds will mobilize local nonprofit partners to assess damage, deliver relief supplies, and begin cleanup and repairs.
Recipients include Convoy of Hope and Operation Blessing, which are establishing bases of operation across the Southeast to distribute food, water, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, meals, and more to impacted communities, as well as World Central Kitchen, which has been distributing meals in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. In addition, the American Red Cross opened shelters to assist more than 9,000 people in hard-hit areas. Team Depot, Home Depot’s volunteer force, is donating relief supplies to nonprofits, first responders, and government agencies, as well as providing volunteers on the ground.
“Our thoughts are with the communities that have been impacted by Hurricane Helene,” said, Home Depot Foundation executive director Erin Izen. “The foundation and Team Depot are working alongside our disaster relief partners to assist the people and areas impacted by this catastrophic storm.”
