Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund Awards Final Grants

The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund has announced a final round of grants totaling $3.5 million, bringing its total grantmaking for relief and recovery efforts to more than $37.2 million.

Grants were awarded to thirteen nonprofit organizations working to provide housing assistance to victims of the storm and to two organizations that have been providing mental health and social services to residents of the state. Recipients include New Jersey Community Capital's Community Loan Fund, which was awarded $1 million to provide fifty additional families with gap funding as they rebuilt their homes; Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County, which received $500,000 to repair and furnish twenty homes for an additional hundred individuals; and Preferred Behavioral Health of New Jersey, which was awarded $150,000 to provide case management, crises counseling, and clinical services for four hundred and fifty individuals and families in the state.

"Building back from Sandy has shown the true spirit of the New Jersey people," said Mary Pat Christie, first lady of New Jersey and board chair of the fund. "The Relief Fund is proud to be an active partner in the recovery effort, supporting a hundred and six nonprofit organizations that have assisted more than three hundred thousand New Jerseyans. "
