Intermountain Healthcare receives $35 million from Pedersen family

Utah-based Intermountain Healthcare has announced a $35 million gift from Andie and Todd Pedersen in support of the hospital network’s expansion focused on children’s health.

The gift will help fund the Primary Promise initiative, Intermountain’s strategic plan to invest $600 million in developing a new model of care designed to deliver premier health care for children regardless of their ability to pay. A partnership between Intermountain Healthcare, Primary Children’s Hospital, and University of Utah Health, the effort will bolster the hospital network’s capacity for pediatric care across the Intermountain West region, which includes Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, and parts of Alaska. In recognition of the gift, the patient tower at Primary Children’s Hospital’s Miller Family Campus in Lehi, Utah—slated for completion in 2024—will be named for the Pedersens.

The couple’s donation was inspired by a $50 million gift in 2020 from Gail Miller, chair emeritus of Intermountain Healthcare and owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, which was previously majority owner of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, who play at the Vivint Arena—named for the smart-home technology company Todd Pederson co-founded in 1999 and sold to Blackstone Group in 2020.

“We’re following Gail’s lead by giving back in impactful ways, and I invite others to follow, spread the word, and do the same,” said Todd Pedersen. “This is the biggest gift we have ever given….I hope others will see how important and historic this project is to our state, and its potential to impact children’s health care across the country.”
