International Donors Conference raises $6.5 billion for Ukraine

The High-Level International Donor’s Conference for Ukraine has raised $6.5 billion in humanitarian aid for Ukraine, the Associated Press reports.

The one-day meeting at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland, saw representatives from the United Nations as well as companies such as Google and COVID vaccine maker AstraZeneca. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, a co-host of the conference, said Ukraine needs more than 12,000 tons of humanitarian aid every day, but only 3,000 tons are getting through.

European Council president Charles Michel said he hoped the conference could be a starting point for a “Marshall Plan” for Ukraine, referring to the U.S.-sponsored plan that helped revive European economies after World War II.

“Ukraine will win this war and we will stand by your side,” said Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Andersson, who co-hosted the conference.
