Iowa West Foundation Announces $3.8 Million in First-Quarter Grants

The Iowa West Foundation in Council Bluffs has announced grants totaling $3.8 million to thirty-one nonprofits and government agencies.

First-quarter grant recipients include the Green Hills Area Education Agency, which was awarded $1.1 million in support of preschool programs in Pottawattamie County school districts; the University of Nebraska Foundation, which received $1 million for cancer education programs at the university's Cancer Center in Omaha; the City of Griswold, which was awarded $2,500 for public library renovations; and Southwest Iowa Families of Clarinda, which received $2,000 to upgrade its facility for disabled clients in need of health services.

The foundation makes grants throughout southwest Iowa and eastern Nebraska using funds from investment earnings and the Iowa West Racing Association, which receives contracted fees from casino operators Ameristar and Harrah's.
