Iowa West Foundation Announces $4.5 Million in Third-Quarter Grants

The Iowa West Foundation in Council Bluffs has announced grants totaling $4.5 million to eighteen nonprofits working in the areas of education, community development, arts and culture, heath, and legal services.

The third-quarter grants include $2.9 million to the Council Bluffs Community School District, which will receive $1.8 million in support of its school administrative managers in local schools program and $1.1 million for its voluntary summer school program in 2015 and 2016. In addition, the district was awarded a grant of $27,800 to study the feasibility of creating a Middle Years International Baccalaureate Program at Kirn Middle School and Abraham Lincoln High School.

"The partnership of the Iowa West Foundation and the Council Bluffs Community School District has truly made a positive impact on our youth and our community," said Iowa West president and CEO Pete Tulipana. "This significant support will enhance these important programs and continue strengthening the Council Bluffs Community School District in its ongoing development of valuable opportunities for their students."

Additional grant recipients include Heartland Family Service, which was awarded $175,000 for a residential substance abuse treatment program in Council Bluffs; the Iowa Western Community College Foundation, which will receive $30,000 in support of programming at the Arts Center in Council Bluffs; Justice For Our Neighbors-Nebraska, which was awarded $60,681 to expand its legal services offerings into southwest Iowa; and the Lewis Central Community School District, which will receive $150,943 in support of a school-based mental health program.
