Iowa West Foundation Awards $5.3 Million in Second-Quarter Grants

The Iowa West Foundation has announced second-quarter grants totaling $5.3 million to local nonprofits and city governments, including a previously announced gift of $3.5 million to the YMCA for a new wellness center in Council Bluffs.

More than a third of the grants were awarded to organizations working to improve the quality of life in the Council Bluffs area, including the City of Carter Lake, which received nearly $150,000 to provide family enrichment programming at its community resource center; Promise Partners, which was awarded $120,000 in support of its Alliance for Youth program; and Pottawattamie County Veterans Affairs, which received $29,000 in support of its mediation services for local veterans with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

"The foundation's board of directors believes these types of grants are important," said Iowa West Foundation president and CEO Pete Tulipana, "not only to the specific community — but to the entire region."
